1 pound Crisco
1/4 pound unsalted margarine
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
Scant cup of cold water
Approximately 6-1/2 cups flour
1 large egg
Pinch salt 1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all together. Dough does not have to be refrigerated.
Roll out and use cookie cutters of your choice, or a glass to cut rounds.
Bake cookies for about 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes:
This recipe was my Grandmother's. My mom still makes apple cake with it, but I
use it every year to make cookies for Chanukah. Although I have tried many other
recipes for cookies, I always find this dough is the easiest to work with, and
it makes the tastiest cookies.
